The 2008 Summer Olympics that are going to be held in Beijing are expected to hold 10,500 athletes to take part in over 302 events of at least 28 different types of sports. The Summer Olympic Games have expanded greatly throughout the many years of competitors, spectators and sponsors. The 2008 Olympic Games are expected to be the largest Summer Olympic Games ever to be held.
Competitors in the 2008 Olympics Summer Games are entered through the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to represent their country. The Summer Olympics include sports such as:

- Badminton
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Gymnastics
- Boxing
- Canoeing
- Cricket
- Diving
- Fencing
This is just a small list of the many different events that can be viewed and participated in throughout the Summer Olympic Games. Beijing won the honour of holding the 2008 Summer Olympics in the bidding against Toronto, Paris, Istanbul and Osaka. Beijing was elected on July 31 of 2006 to hold the Summer Olympics and immediately they began construction and plans to make sure their Olympic honour would go down in history.
Beijing has been constructing and developing over 31 new and existing venues to ensure that their cities within the Republic of China are adequate to house some of the best athletes in the world. It has also become public knowledge that the Olympic Committee of Beijing decided to lower the ticket prices for all Olympic events so that the Chinese citizens and neighbouring communities have the option to experience the games as well. This decision of course has made tickets more accessible for not just Chinese residents but people from all around the world as well.

Although the trip to Beijing is not something everyone can afford, but many people find the Olympic Games an investment as it is in fact a once in a lifetime opportunity for many people. It is not often that the Olympic Games are held in the Forbidden City and this makes for an extra special event. Athletes and spectators alike have the opportunity to experience and explore the cities within the Republic of China and for many this is something they will never get to experience again.
The emblem of the 2008 Summer Olympics is that of the Dancing Beijing. The symbols, slogans and mascots of the Summer Olympics are in sync with the Chinese culture but in fact this culture knows little about the Olympic history. Although much of these upcoming Olympic events will be related to China anyone from around the world will be able to understand and appreciate the work and effort put into these games but a country who has never been awarded the honour before 2008.
There has been a little bit of controversy over the environment and human rights laws associated with the Olympic Games being held in Beijing, there has also been a great deal of excitement regarding this different and cultural choice.
