U.S.O.C - U.S Olympic Committee
The Olympic Movments
The USOC is the U.S Olympic Committee which is responsible for the National Olympic Committee for the United States. This organization has dozens of different connections and bridges to the hundreds of other Olympic organizations which all have a part in maintaining and promoting these prestigious games.
The USOC is responsible for supporting and locating American athletes in general and of course Olympic athletes in particular. This committee will provide the training facilities; funds and staff for the elite athletes they feel are suitable for the competition within the Olympic Games. The USOC also acts as the USA's official spokesperson when it comes to any and all Olympic matters.
The USOC was founded at the same time as the IOC as there were two American members of the IOC who found it effective to form an organization to help recruit and train prospective American athletes for the summer and Winter Olympic Games. This organization went through several different names and members before it found its current name in 1961.
This committee is led by an eleven member board of directors who are very experienced when it comes not only to the rules and traditions of the Olympic Games but they are well equipped to locate the hidden athletic talent throughout the country as well. Many of the members on this board are previous Olympic winners or participants who have a full and honest understanding regarding what the games are all about.
Each country has their own committee to help young athletes with their admittance and training into the Olympics as no one can do it alone. Without these committees it would be increasingly difficult to locate the young talent of today in any country. Within the USA the USOC operates and funds four different training facilities for young athletes today.
The main facility used for training is in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This facility offers both summer and winter sports training which makes it the most versatile training facility within the USA. The facility also offers the headquarters for the USOC where they hold their meetings and run their non-profit organization. The Olympic center in Lake Placid, New York is the training facility the USOC uses for athletes training for winter sporting events and the training center in Chula Vista, California is where prospective athletes train for their summer sports events.
The USOC has done a great job over the years recruiting the newest and cutting edge athletes as they are always changing their tactics to ensure they are always on top of the best talent within the USA. By organizing their athletes and ensuring they are working and investing with the best talent in the country, the USOC is taking the initiative when it comes to their athletic talents and their positions in the Olympic Games historically and in the future. The USOC is a non-profit organization that works solely for the Olympics and does all they can to hire the best recruiters to ensure they are on the track to success.
