2008 china olympics - Attractions in Beijing
With Beijing holding the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, many people are interested to visit there not only to see the games but to experience the culture and historical presence Beijing possesses. Although Beijing is not one of the prime tourist locations to many people, there is a great deal to see and do within this area of China that you will want to extend your trip in order to take it all in.
Of course the Forbidden City is the most talked about and popular sites to see within Beijing, although not everyone really knows what it is. This architectural attraction was built in the early 1400s by over 200,000 men in the third Ming Dynasty. Twenty-four Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties made this their home and held court hearings there as well for a period of over 5 centuries. Of course, the reason it was named the Forbidden City was because only the royals and Emperors were allowed inside. The structure is nearly a half mile wide and over half a mile long. Inside you will find over 9,000 rooms and 170foot moat across the center of this amazing attraction. This is something each and every tourist and visitor needs to experience during their stay in Beijing.

The Temple of Heaven is yet another one of the amazing attractions of Beijing. This attraction was built at the same time as the Forbidden City as a large heavenly alter to be built adjacent to the palace. Every year the Emperor would lead a procession from the Forbidden City to the Temple of Heaven where rites and sacrifices would be performed on behalf of China.
There are also dozens of different museums in Beijing that can also be enjoyed and visited by tourists and forthcoming Olympic athletes. You can visit the Beijing Art Museum, Big Bell Temple & Museum, Natural History Museum and the list goes on and on. This is only a small list of the many different museums and cultural attractions Beijing has to offer.
Beijing also offers a great deal of parks and government owned areas that many residents and visitors like to enjoy during their Beijing trip. Enjoy the Jingshan Park which overlooks the Forbidden City or one of the newer parks such as the Grand View Park which also has great views of Beijing and even the surrounding areas of China as well. And last but not least, there is of course the Great Wall of China. With so many great attractions and places to see in Beijing it is a surprise more tourists have not found the potential within this great country.
Beijing is the perfect spot for the 2008 Olympic Games and an even better location for tourists to experience the history and culture of China. In the summer of 2008 millions of spectators and athletes alike will be visiting Beijing and taking in these magnificent sites first hand. Beijing offers more of the Chinese cultural than many other locations throughout the People's Republic of China.
