2008 China Olympics
The 2008 Olympics will be held in Beijing this summer, beginning on August 8 continuing on until August 24. As with each and every Olympic game held throughout time, you do not want to miss the opening ceremonies which will be held at 8:08pm at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, People's Republic of China. This 2008 Beijing Olympics will hold different games and throughout many different cities of China including Hong Kong.
The International Olympic Committee awarded Beijing with the privilege of holding the 2008 Olympic game after a long and exhausting series of votes and polls. Since this moment on July 31 2001, Beijing has embraced this new honour and has done everything they can to make this Olympic year one of the best throughout history. You will find that they have created an Olympic mascot for the Olympic game 2008, known as 'Dancing Beijing'. This mascot or symbol features a stylized calligraphic character "jing" which means the host city.

Athletes will compete in 302 events of 28 different sports; this is one more event than what was included in the Athens Olympics of 2004. Of course by having the Olympic Games within the city of China and even its surrounding cities, the Chinese government sees this as a great political opportunity for the world to see and appreciate the economic and financial status China has developed. The government has attempted to make efforts to compress any press coverage on the games, which of course has failed. The government also took the time and consideration to invest in 6 existing venues as well as some training facilities throughout the Republic of China.
